“As a physician, helping individuals overcome sleep and health problems is personally rewarding. Working with people to unlock their potential for living a fulfilling life is what originally drew me to science and medicine at an early age. Today, it is the impact we have on scores of people through the creative use of technology and scientific data that continues to inspire my work at FusionHealth.
At its core, FusionHealth is not so much a place, but a way of thinking differently about bridging the gaps in knowledge between technology, healthcare, science, and business. The unique environment that exists at FusionHealth allows us to use the continuous flow of information from the frontiers of sleep and circadian neuroscience to develop new and practical applications that can really improve the health and wellbeing of millions of people.”

This is an exciting time for Sleep Medicine. For years, many different areas of medicine have been peripherally involved in evaluating and managing sleep problems for their patients. The disadvantage was that sleep conditions were neither fully addressed, nor their impact appreciated on the overall health of the patient.
I am fortunate to be involved with Fusion at a time when the whole specialty of Sleep Medicine is just being developed. In my years of practicing Otolaryngology, I have seen the impact poor sleep has had, not only on the quality of life, but also on the quantity of years shortened by sleep-related chronic disease.
My goal at Fusion is to contribute my skills as a member of a dedicated team of providers, from several specialties, that traditionally have participated in sleep medicine as individuals. As a result of this collaboration, we provide a comprehensive approach to the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders.
“While sleep has been a topic of interest and research for many centuries, the field of sleep medicine has truly exploded in recent times. We now know that sleep can play a role in many chronic diseases including hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease. Science has shown that sleep affects important aspects of our day-to-day lives including our perceptions, decision-making, reactions, mood, and overall quality of life. What draws me to sleep medicine is the opportunity to prevent the progression of chronic disease while simultaneously improving one’s quality of life.
FusionHealth is a unique healthcare organization that allows the delivery of the most up to date care through the use of modern technology to a large population of patients. What I love most about the program is the opportunity to deliver sleep medicine to patients who need it most: those who may not have easy access to sleep medicine physicians or have limited time to meet with a physician due to their demanding jobs. FusionHealth strives to be patient-centric so that the virtual clinic comes to the patient, and not vice versa.”

She later attended Emory University School of Medicine on the James Campbell Memorial Scholarship and there investigated airway inflammation in obese patients with asthma. After medical school, Dr. Aggarwal completed her residency in Internal Medicine and her fellowship in Sleep Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania where she was involved in pulmonary and sleep medicine research, authoring a review on genetic testing in pulmonary diseases, as well as a review on portable apnea testing.
After her training, Dr. Aggarwal worked as a hospitalist for a year at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta, where she was involved in the treatment and management of patients admitted for acute illnesses. Her clinical and research interests include obesity hypoventilation syndrome, chronic disease associated with sleep disordered breathing, and the treatment of sleep disordered breathing as a means for disease prevention.
